President’s Report September 2025
Earlier this year, the association launched a new strategic plan for the MCA, beginning with an important rebranding initiative. The transition to Bricklayer Contractors Australia (BCA) reflects our commitment to elevating the profile of our members and strengthening the brick and block sector. The rebrand was designed to enhance our industry presence by engaging contractors more actively through the BCA website, social media, and digital platforms, ultimately expanding our reach and strengthening connections within our community.
At its core, Bricklayer Contractors Australia is dedicated to improving the quality, reliability, integrity, and education of its members and the broader brick and block industry. Through professional engagement, high industry standards, and continuous development, we aim to create a stronger, more unified network of skilled professionals.
This year, we’ve been encouraged by the steady growth in attendance at our breakfast meetings. These sessions have provided valuable opportunities to hear from respected speakers such as SafeWork NSW, Mates in Construction, and Think Brick. Each session is designed to support your professional development, broaden education, and increase engagement within the industry. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these events not only to gain insights from industry leaders but also to build meaningful connections with peers and colleagues.
Looking ahead, workforce development remains one of the most critical focus areas for 2025 and beyond. Our industry thrives on skilled professionals, and we hope to see continued growth in apprenticeships across the sector. We encourage our members to mentor and train the next generation of bricklayers and blocklayers, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent for the future. Together, we can help foster a new wave of dedicated tradespeople who will carry forward the standards of excellence our industry is known for.
Throughout the year, we’ve seen several significant changes in workplace legislation that directly impact our sector. The Workplace Protections Bill has introduced notable updates to industrial relations and work health and safety laws in NSW, including adjustments related to the exercise of a right of entry and prosecutions under the WHS Act.
In addition, SafeWork NSW has announced that it is now operating as an independent regulator, with legislation officially passed to establish its standalone status. This change marks an important step in strengthening protections for workers, and we encourage all members to remain informed and compliant with these evolving regulations.
As always, the BCA will continue to communicate updates and provide guidance to members as industry changes arise.
One of the key highlights on our annual calendar is fast approaching—our Excellence in Brick and Block Awards Night, taking place on 7 November at the Canada Bay Club, Five Dock. This prestigious event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate outstanding projects completed by our members. We strongly encourage you to submit your best work for consideration and join us on the night to recognize and honour the remarkable achievements of your industry peers.
We are proud to see our members leading the way in delivering exceptional craftsmanship and driving high standards within the brick and block industry. Your ongoing dedication is what sets our sector apart and ensures its continued success.
