Welcome to “In Our Estimation”, a new series from Bricklayer Contractors Australia (BCA) that shines a spotlight on some of the unsung heroes of the Australian bricklaying industry – the estimators.
These dedicated men and women play a critical role in transforming an architect’s vision from concept to reality. They carefully analyse drawings, assess project specifications, calculate material quantities, estimate labour requirements, identify potential challenges, and prepare accurate costings that help ensure successful project delivery.
Without skilled estimators, even the most talented bricklayer contractors would face significant challenges in planning and delivering projects efficiently and profitably.

Their calculations influence project budgets, scheduling, resource allocation, and ultimately the success of a construction project.
For the first profile in our “In Our Estimation” series, BCA’s John White sat down with Rob Tannous from Favetti Bricklaying to discuss the evolving role of estimating within the modern bricklaying and masonry industry.
